Jail Psychiatric Services Internship/Practicum Training Program
Jail Psychiatric Services has provided mental health treatment to the inmates at the San Francisco City and County Jail systems since 1973. JPS offers a full spectrum of mental health care including evaluation and assessment, crisis intervention, individual and group therapy, medication management, court-ordered evaluations, day treatment programs, and re-entry planning services.
Jail Aftercare Services (JAS) is a program component of Jail Psychiatric Services that focuses on clinical case management, re-entry planning, and court and community collaboration. Clinical case managers act as the liaison between the various systems that impact the lives of inmates with severe and persistent mental illness.
JPS employs a multi-disciplinary staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, MFTs, LCSWs and mental health counselors. JPS believes that having a variety of staff disciplines and philosophies working together enhances the range and quality of care. JPS is part of a healthcare team and provides integrated care by working closely with Jail Health Services and other primary health care providers.
